The holy grail for any iPhone hacker is to unlock the iPhone 3G to work on any mobile carrier network, as of yesterday, someone has done just that. MuscleNerd who is a member of Dev-Team ran a demo on Qik showcasing how Dev-Teams iPhone software hack — yellowsn0w — works, and it works beautifully!

In the demo (embedded below), MuscleNerd shows viewers how to implement the software hack and how to seamlessly switch between carriers. MuscleNerd switches from AT&T to T-Mobile seamlessly.

As you can see, the solution is quick, easy and ready to go, in fact the only thing that’s stopping Dev-Team from releasing the hack is the fact that the GUI hasn’t been prepared yet. The actual hack is finished and working.

There are a few things you got to know before you consider getting a copy of yellowsn0w, the unlock will only work for iPhone 3G owners that have 2.11.07 baseband or earlier, and the hack requires your iPhone to be jail-broken since you will be using Cydia to implement the hack.

The team hopes to release the yellowsn0w on News Year’s Eve.
